Deputy Commissioner ‘pressured’ to stop survey of disputed land

MYSORE: The issue of arrest and interrogation of Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji of Avadoota Datta Peetha appears to be turning murkier with the Deputy Commissioner stating before the police that representatives of the ashram “pressured” him to stop the survey of the disputed land.

In a statement before the police inspector and investigating officer, Nazarbad police station, on May 24, Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan said that representatives of the ashram “almost barged” into his office on the day of the survey and objected to the work.

“I was also told by the survey officer that the ashram authorities attempted to forcibly stop the work at the field level,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

The ashram authorities’ attempt came after Mr. Manivannan ordered a survey of the disputed land, based on a complaint by S.R. Anil Kumar, who had prima facie established that documents related to the land were forged to suit the ashram’s contention.
