KATHMANDU: Members of the newly elected 601-member Constituent Assembly (CA) took oath at Birendra International Convention Centre in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Nepali Congress leader Kul Bahadur Gurung administered the oath to the 567 members. For the first time, parliamentarians were allowed to take oath in their mother tongue and were not required to wear the “national dress” — daura suruwal for men and saris for women. King’s last day in palace PTI reports: King Gyanedra on Tuesday spent his last day on the throne, closeted with his aides at Narayanhiti Palace, anxiously awaiting his fate as CA members were sworn in ahead of a crucial session that will draw the curtains on the 240-year-old monarchy. Gyanendra has been asked to voluntarily vacate the palace, where his great-grandfather King Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah shifted nearly 124 years ago.
