NEW DELHI: Tejaswini Sawant shot 577 out of 600 to take the 14th place in the women’s 50m rifle 3-position event in the shooting World Cup in Milan on Tuesday. She had started badly with a 94 in prone, which eventually cost her a place in the final by four points. She had rounds of 192 in prone, 189 in standing and 196 in kneeling. Two-time Olympian Anjali Bhagwat who has qualified for her third Olympics in the 3-position event, was one point behind Tejaswini. She had 196 in prone, 188 in standing and 192 in kneeling for the 20th place. The third Indian shooter in the fray, Anuja, wife of Samaresh Jung, shot 573 for the 39th spot in a field of 61. She had 100 on the second card in prone, but finished with a 91 in kneeling that put paid to her hopes of a better score.Sonja Pfeilschifter of Germany won her fourth straight World Cup gold. She had won the 10m air rifle on Saturday with two World records and repeated her last week’s performance in the Munich World Cup, where she had won two gold medals, by adding the 50m 3-position title to her kitty. The results: Women’s 50m rifle 3-position: 1. Sonja Pfeilschifter (Ger) 687.6 (587); 2. Jamie Beyerle (U.S.) 685.7 (587); 3. Kristina Vestveit (Nor) 685.3 (588); 14. Tejaswini Sawant 577; 20. Anjali Bhagwat 576; 39. Anuja Jung 573.
