Depicts the pressure on students to perform well

MASTER STROKES: A solo show of Roop Chand’s collection, ‘Fantasy’, opens in the Capital on June 1.

NEW DELHI: A solo show of drawings and paintings by Roop Chand titled “Fantasy” opens at the Open Palm Court of India Habitat Centre here on June 1. Presented by Art Square, the exhibition will be inaugurated by eminent artist Sudip Roy.

Says the artist: “I am presenting some 40 paintings at the exhibition and most of these highlight a social issue. While I have spoken and worked on the issue of girl child, I have also picked up the issue of excess pressure of scoring high marks on students these days. With the Board results out, some of my paintings also deal with assuring children that marks are not the end of the world and life is a constant journey towards achieving one’s ultimate goal. Most of my paintings that I have presented for the exhibition are motivational and aimed at inspiring the audience.”

Roop Chand had earlier engaged himself in making greeting cards for soldiers during the Kargil War to encourage them, and also visited Army and base hospitals to gift these greetings.

“I also made a portrait of Sunita Williams to give her my best wishes for a safe landing on earth. And when a former cricketer of Pakistan, Javed Miandad, visited India, I gifted him a cricket ball on which I made a painting carrying the message of Indo-Pak friendship. I have also made paintings to highlight the need to save the girl child and gifted it to a non-government organisation, Sahaj Sankalp, to be sold as greeting cards to help the children who are being looked after by the organisation,” says Roop Chand about the various causes and activities that he has associated himself with.

The artist’s works have been appreciated and awarded several times. He has been awarded by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Sahitya Kala Parishad and Rotary Club of Delhi among others.

The exhibition at IHC is open to the public up to June 3. It will then shift to Terrace Lounge of TDI Mall in Rajouri Garden from June 5 to 15.
