KASARAGOD: The Gandhi Smaraka Seva Kendram, a non-governmental organisation based at Karadukka here, is launching a Gramin Vikas Andolan (an awareness programme) jointly with the Council for Advancement of People Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) under the Central government in nine panchayats under Kasaragod block in the district on June 3, P.K. Madhavan Nambiar, president of the Kendram, has said. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Nambiar and K.C. Krishnan, secretary of the kendram, said the programme was aimed at creating awareness among the rural public, especially the youth and representatives of people in Panchayati Raj institutions on water preservation, sanitation, and development projects under the Union Rural Development Ministry. Village expertsThe aim of the andolan is to create experts in villages on various subjects and make them take initiative in the utilisation of rural development projects of the Central government, Mr. Krishnan said. P. Karunakaran, Kasaragod MP, will inaugurate the andolan at a programme at the Chenkala grama panchayat community hall at Cherkkala here at 1 p.m. on June 3. Kasaragod MLA C.T. Ahmed Ali, District Collector A.T. James and L.B. Singh, member-convener, CAPART, will be chief guests at the function.
