DHARAPURAM: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board on Wednesday commissioned two sub stations – a 110/22 KV station at Kolathupalayam and a like one at Vadugapatti.

The first sub station costs Rs. 8 crore and the second Rs. 9 crore.

Industries

The Kolathupalayam station will help industries in Dharapuram and Vellakoil regions get power at the required voltage and also the Tamil Nadu Government by bringing down transmission and distribution losses by about Rs. 40 lakh.

The Vadugapatti station is expected to cut transmission and distribution losses by 14 lakh units a year.

S. Machendranathan, Chairman, TNEB, said the two stations would benefit over a lakh people living in about 40 villages, as they would get power at the appropriate voltage.

He said in the recent past, the Government had spent about Rs. 1,800 crore towards minimising the T&D losses.

This year the Government would spend about Rs. 1,500 crore in the State, he added.

S. Gunasekaran, Member (Distribution), TNEB, said the Government planned to commission 90 stations in the State to ensure effective power supply.

Collector Mahesan Kasirajan said now that the region had been assured of a steady power supply, the district administration would do all it could do in the industrialisation of the region.

He urged industrialists to make use of the opportunity that had been made available.

State Minister for Highways and Ports M. P. Saminathan said in the commissioning of the sub stations he had kept his election promise.

He then highlighted various achievements of the Government to drive home the point that it was people friendly.

Performance

State Minister for Handlooms N.K.K.P. Raja said TNEB’s performance in the past two years had been better than the five years under the previous government’s rule.

He said the present Government was so people-friendly that it went to the people with schemes.
