Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S.F. Rodrigues on Wednesday inaugurated an exhibition of paintings, “Chandigarh on Canvas”, organised jointly by Chandigarh Tourism and Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy at the Museum and Art Gallery in Sector 10 here.

The exhibition is a collection of 100 outstanding paintings, selected during the painting competition “Chandigarh in April” organised on all four Sundays this past April, which was divided into three categories – for school children, college students, amateurs and professionals.

Gen. Rodrigues called upon the young artists to continue with their creative and talented endeavour and work with commitment and dedication to achieve excellence. “A Very good beginning. We have a lot of talent and this needs to be nurtured,” he commented.

It was just a beginning of promoting the concept of ownership of “Chandigarh is our City”, he added. He particularly appreciated the participation of students from the juvenile home who are studying in Government Model High School, Sector 25.

He also gave away prizes to the winners of different competitions. Sahil Aggarwal of Government Model High School, Sector 28-D, got the first prize in the student category, Jagjit Singh, Government College of Art bagged the first prize in colleges category, while Shikandar Singh of Sector 15-B got the first prize among professionals.

The panel of judges included Aditya Parkash, Inderjit Gupta, Hargopal Jhamb and Ravinder Sharma.

Director Tourism Vivek Attray said the painting competitions were held during April at Sukhna Lake, Leisure Valley, Rock Garden and Rose Garden. Overall 476 entries were received.
