Separate directorate for primary schools sought

Staff Reporter

Several schools do not have enough number of teachers

PUDUCHERRY: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday urged the government to set up a separate directorate for primary schools in the Union Territory.

President of the Puducherry unit of the NSUI S. Samraj said in a statement here on Wednesday that the standard of education in government primary schools had drastically declined.

Several primary schools did not have adequate teachers.

To monitor the primary schools, the government should set up a separate directorate immediately, he said, adding that the shortage of teachers could thus be addressed and the students could benefit from the government schemes.
