DYFI harassing real sanyasis: BJP

Staff Reporter

C.K. Padmanabhan demands CBI probe into deals of fake godmen

Says DYFI taking law into its own hands

Alleges that CPI(M) leaders visited ashrams, seen in the company of sanyasis

KASARAGOD: Real sanaysis in the Sate are being abused and harassed by the activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in the name of its fight against fake sanyasis, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive committee member C.K. Padmanabhan has said.

Inaugurating a dharna organised by the BJP here on Wednesday demanding an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the deals of fake godmen, Mr. Padmanabhan said they needed to be exposed before society and should be isolated. But real sanyasis should be allowed to do service to society, he said.

In the name of its fight against fake sanyasis, the DYFI was taking law into its own hands, Mr. Padmanabhan said.

“Who gave the authority to the DYFI to harass and attack sanyasis?” Mr. Padmanabhan said. Human rights of those engaged in social service were being violated in the name of the fight against fake sanyasis.

If any sanyasi was found engaging in illegal activity, it was for the police and other authorities to take action. He demanded that investigations into unholy deals of sanyasis be conducted by professional and competent agencies without any prejudice or partiality.

While the DYFI was organising protests against sanyasis on one hand many leaders of the CPI (M) were found secretly visiting ashrams and were seen in the company of sanyasis, Mr. Padmanabhan said.

Commenting on the controversy on Makaravilakku, Mr. Padmanabhan said it was a publicly known fact that Makaravilakku was lit by devotees and Makarajyothi was the celestial star which appeared in the sky during Makara Samkramam.

BJP district president K. Jagadeesha presided over the function. Several BJP workers participated in the dharna.
