Cancellation of agreement with multinational company sought
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association (TNGEA) has appealed to the State Government to cancel the agreement signed with Star Health and Allied Insurance Company, and not to go ahead with the multinational insurance company to provide a new health insurance scheme covering over 15 lakh employees of the Government and quasi Government undertakings.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the General Secretary of the TNGEA, R. Muthusundaram, wondered how the Government could make compulsory the enrolment of employees under the new health insurance scheme.
Mr. Muthusundaram explained that the Association was not against any change in the health insurance scheme being brought about.
“We would be happy if the Government itself undertook the task of providing the necessary insurance cover or implement it through proven insurance service providers such as the LIC and other public sector insurance providers,” he said.
Mr. Muthusundaram demanded immediate cancellation of the agreement with the United Arab Emirates-based company.
