Disband Mohammed committee: UDF

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front (UDF) on Wednesday asked the government to disband the Mohammed committee on fee structure in self-financing professional colleges as it had failed to achieve the objective of ensuring a flawless admission process. In a statement here, UDF convener P.P. Thankachan said the committee was appointed with the objective of ending corruption in the self-financing sector, besides ensuring flawless admission procedures. But it had failed to deliver the goods. It was unfortunate that the committee could not do anything to find a solution to the problems in the sector since its inception two years ago. Mr. Thankachan said that owing to the all round uncertainty, students would be forced once again to seek admission to higher education in the neighbouring States. The State government and the self-financing college managements were playing a game of hide and seek by violating the norms laid down by the All India Medical Council for admissions to MBBS courses, he alleged.
