M.P. Minister’s resignation sought for alleged derogatory remark

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Suresh Pachouri on Wednesday described State Agriculture Minister Gopal Bhargava’s reported reference to those entitled for reservation under the Constitution at a Brahmin Mahasabha held at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s residence on Tuesday as most “derogatory” and demanded his removal from the State Cabinet.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Pachouri cited the Agriculture Minister’s much quoted statement, “We do not need reservation, let it be there for the beggars who need it”, and said reservation is a Constitutional right.

“Gross disregard”

“By using these words, Mr. Bhargava has shown gross disregard for the weaker sections and the Constitution,” he said.

Mr. Pachouri said that since the controversial statement was made at a function in Mr. Chauhan’s presence, even the Chief Minister should tender an apology.

He also alleged that there was large-scale illegal sand mining in Budhni which happens to be the Chief Minister’s territory. He also expressed concern over complaints of massive irregularities in wheat procurement in Madhya Pradesh.
