The employees showed a work as completed withouit even taking it up The issue came to light when a quality control team conducted field inspection ANANTAPUR: Sixteen employees involved in the implementation of NREGS in Vajrakarur mandal in the district were suspended by District Collector N. Sridhar on Wednesday on the charges of committing large-scale irregularities and swindling funds. An assistant project officer, three technical assistants, two computer operators and 10 field assistants were suspended for swindling Rs. 7.55 lakhs. They had shown a particular work as completed without even taking it up in the mandal to swindle the funds. The Collector also issued show cause notices to MPDO Jaffer Iqbal and mandal engineer Venkat Reddy for their negligence and inaction against the irregularity committed in their purview. Seven teams led by quality control DEE Narender Reddy conducted a field inspection on May 21 and 22 in nine gram panchayats in the mandals where the works were shown as completed. The inquiry had found that no work was taken up but bills were submitted that the works were completed and payment of Rs. 7,54,861 was ‘made’. Accordingly, APO K. Jayarami Reddy, technical assistants P. Nagendra, C. Nagaraju and B. Gopal, field assistants Rajasekhar, Raghupathi, P. Erriswamy, S. Venkateswarlu, M. Veeresh, Somla Naik, G. Ramanjaneyulu, M. Subhash and S. Sunkappa and computer operators P. Nallappa and Jagadish were suspended by the Collector. VRO suspendedSimilarly, in another case of issuing patta of land belonging to a person to another person illegally a VRO was suspended and show cause notices were issued to Somandepalli Tahsildar Lalithamma and Revenue Inspector K. Raja. Nadimpalli Village Revenue Officer K. Krishnamurthy was suspended for issuing patta of 2.77 acres land belonging to one L. Babuprasad to another villager K. Srinivasulu illegally. Penukonda RDO S.V. Nageswara Rao inquired into the case.
