AGITATED LOT: CPI(M) activists stopping the Howrah-Yeshwantpur Express at the Visakhapatnam railway station on Wednesday. VISAKHAPATNAM: The Howrah-Yeshwantpur Express was detained at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station for sometime on Wednesday by activists of CPI(M) in protest against the plan to shift the proposed central university from Visakhapatnam to Kadapa. Earlier, the CPI(M) activists staged a dharna on the railway station premises and raised slogans that they would not rest till the proposal to shift the university was dropped. Addressing the participants, CPI(M) city committee secretary K. Lokanadham deplored the plan of the Congress Government to shift the university. He ridiculed the contradictory statements being made by the Chief Minister’s Cabinet colleagues on the issue. ‘No truth’He said that there was no truth in the claim of the government that 700 acres of land was not available for setting up of the university in Visakhapatnam. He demanded that the Chief Minister make a statement on the controversy and added that the establishment of the university in the city would benefit not only the city but also East and West Godavari districts apart from north Andhra. CPI(M) leaders M. Jaggu Naidu, R.K.S.V. Kumar, R. Bhagya Lakshmi, M. Subba Rao, R.P. Raju, M.D. Saleem, A. Sankara Rao, 36th ward corporator Botta Eswaramma and others participated.
