“Varsity syllabus in line with global changes”

THANJAVUR: The educational system in Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU) is regularly examined and systematically redesigned in accordance with global changes in agricultural sector, said TNAU Dean (Agri) K. Vanangamudi here recently.

He told presspersons at the Soil and Water Management Research Institute here that the aim of restructuring was to produce globally competitive agricultural graduates.

The TNAU offers 12 undergraduate programmes in its 10 constituent colleges in the State. The university follows the single window admission for all its under-graduate degree programmes.

The courses are B.Sc. Agriculture, offered at Agricultural college and Research Institute at Coimbatore, Madurai, Killikulam and Tiruchi, B.Sc.Horticulture at Horticultural College and Research Institute at Periyakulam, B.Sc. (Forestry) offered at Forest College and Research Institute at Mettupalayam, B.Sc.(Home Science) at Home Science College and Research Institute at Madurai, B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) at Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur, B.Tech (Horticulture) at Horticultural College and Research Institute at Coimbatore, B.Tech (Food Process Engineering) and B.Tech (Energy and Environment Engineering) at Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Coimbatore, B.Tech (Biotechnology), B.Tech Bioinformatics, B.S (Agribusiness management) and B.Tech (Agricultural Information Technology) at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore. Application forms for the courses will be issued from May 7. Applications for the admission will be issued till June 9 which is also the last date for submitting the applications.

Eligibility criteria for applying to TNAU UG programmes has been relaxed. The eligibility is Plus Two with 55 per cent (open competition), 50 per cent backward class and 45 per cent for most backward class aggregate marks of all science subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Biology and one elective.
