This Day That Age
The Security Council met for an hour on May 27 on Lebanon’s complaint of “intervention” by the United Arab Republic and then adjourned until next Tuesday to allow time for conciliation efforts by the Arab League. Mr. Arkady Sobolev of the Soviet Union said that the fact that he had not objected did not mean that his government regarded the complaint as justified nor did it consider Lebanon’s action, in seizing the Council of the matter, to be justified. He added that he was in favour of suspending consideration of the question until next Tuesday, but should the Arab League reach a decision satisfactory to both parties then the Security Council would not have a reason to meet on the question.
