dated May 29, 1958: Pak mission in India

Pakistan has decided to close some of her consular and diplomatic missions in India, Pakistan official sources said in Karachi on May 27. These missions “are considered no longer necessary,” the sources added. Pakistan’s Deputy High Commission in Chandigarh, the Assistant High Commission in Bombay and the visa office in Agartala would be shut down in the next few weeks. In accordance with the principle of reciprocity, corresponding Indian missions in Pakistan would also have to be shut down, the sources said. The corresponding Indian missions are the Deputy High Commission in Lahore, the Assistant High Commission in Hyderabad (Sind) and the visa office in Comilla. India and Pakistan are understood to have already exchanged correspondence on the subject and final dates for closure of these missions have been fixed.
