NEW DELHI: On the eve of the “NCR Roko” call by the agitating Gujjar community for crippling normal life in and around the national capital, the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday issued fresh advisories to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi governments asking them to take steps to maintain peace. The advisories came in the wake of Gujjar violence spreading to the National Capital Region, which has already been put on high alert by the Ministry. Utmost vigilHome Secretary Madhukar Gupta, who is monitoring the situation, is in touch with Directors-General of Police of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, and the Police Commissioner of Delhi. Mr. Gupta has asked the three police chiefs to maintain utmost vigil in vulnerable areas as Delhi’s periphery has certain pockets of the Gujjar community, which has been agitating to press its demand for Scheduled Tribe status. Their agitation started five days ago in Rajasthan and spread to neighbouring areas. The three States have been told to maintain close liaison and coordination with the police and district authorities of areas bordering Delhi and the NCR and keep a watch on anti-social elements as well. The police chiefs have also been asked to ensure that no disruption and untoward incident takes place during the bandh called by the Gujjars.
