BEIJING: China’s President Hu Jintao met Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Wednesday. Mr. Hu said Mr. Wu’s first visit to China as KMT Chairman was a major event for relations between China and Taiwan, and expressed hope that on the basis of previous exchanges and dialogues, there would be further exchange of views to promote the improvement and development of relations. Mr. Hu thanked Taiwan for its concern and assistance to relief efforts in the wake of the earthquake in Sichuan. — Xinhua
