Jayaprakash. BANGALORE: A.V. Jayaprakash, who umpired at the bowler’s end at the Ferozeshah Kotla, Delhi in 1999 when Anil Kumble reached the landmark of all ten wickets in a Test innings, walked into the sunset at the end of the DLF-Indian Premier League match here on Wednesday. The 58-year-old Karnataka all-rounder, who had an eventful career as a domestic cricketer, had switched over to umpiring after his Ranji Trophy career came to end. He officiated in 13 Tests and 38 ODIs. He had umpired in the 1996 and 2003 World Cups. DisappointedJayaprakash was in the scheme of things in the ICC Panel of Umpires. However he failed to make it on to the elite panel and was quite disappointed at being overlooked. He had also narrowly failed to make it into the Indian Test side as a player. Jayaprakash plans to work with upcoming umpires and guide them as a mentor. The Association of Cricket Umpires of Karnataka in a message lauded his services as a player, umpire and administrator. — Special Correspondent
