Liquor in full flow as a last resort
Staff Reporter
Sangareddy: Liquor started flowing immediately after the curtains were officially drawn on the campaign for the byelections to be held on Thursday. Within a few hours police raided a restaurant in Siddipet town and confiscated liquor allegedly kept for distribution and arrested a few persons.
Similarly, 1,150 bottles of liquor of different brands packed in 24 cartons worth Rs. 56,000 were confiscated by the police in Mirdoddi town of Dommat constituency from the house of a local Congress leader. In Dharmajipet, 24 quarter bottles of whisky were found in the house of Congress activist Y.Venkatesam.
Less impact
However, the impact of liquor was less in places like Siddipet, which has seen fierce competition between the parties.
On the other hand, candidates belonging to all the three main parties spent the last day meeting leaders of several caste-based groups and individuals having considerable clout in the local areas for the final time.
