Compensation sought

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Members of Bangalore district committee of the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) staged a dharna here on Wednesday demanding suitable compensation to the family members of those died in the recent hooch tragedy.

The samiti demanded action against the authorities concerned.

The members said that the total death crossed the 200 figure and blamed the previous Government for not having taken precautions after banning arrack. It was owing to the ban of arrack that the poor people had started consuming illicit liquor, they said. Later, the DSS submitted a memorandum to Governor Rameshwar Thakur urging the Government to release Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of the victims.
