ARUPPUKOTTAI: In an attempt to find jobs for the rural youth of Virudhunagar district, an exclusive job fair with participation of nearly 50 companies is being organised on June 10 at Kariapatti near here.

The job fair was predominantly for job-seeking youth in Aruppukottai constituency and a first time attempt for the benefit of educated/skilled youngsters, Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for School Education, said on Wednesday.

“As an MLA representing Aruppukottai constituency, I am keen to create good livelihood opportunities for the youth. It is also meant to mark the 85th birthday of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi,” he said while addressing a press meet at his farm house in Mallankinar.

According to Mr. Thennarasu, about 50 companies including Chennai-based ones have confirmed their participation to recruit suitable candidates. Companies in manufacturing, textiles, software systems and automobile sectors will be among the participants. “We are expecting to get job placement for at least 300 candidates,” he said.

The organisers would also approach the Confederation of Indian Industry so as to get more companies, he said.

Special career guidance programmes by experts would also be held at Kariapatti on June 11 in order to provide guidance to school students on higher education and job opportunities.

Those candidates who wish to take part in this job fair will have to submit their bio-data and register names from June 1 to 8 for preliminary screening based on educational qualification. It will be held at Thiruchuzhi, Kariapatti and Narikudi and also at the MLA’s office at Kariapatti.

The Minister said that those candidates in the district with ITI and various diploma qualifications could benefit from the job fair.

“This is an experimental exercise aimed at getting employment for Aruppukottai youth. In future, focus will be on the entire Virudhunagar district through an affirmative action plan,” Mr. Thennarasu said.
