Water to be released from Mettur dam on June 12

CHENNAI: Water for irrigation of the Cauvery delta basin will be released from the Mettur dam on June 12, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has said.

In a release, he said the level in the dam had risen to more than 100 feet, so it was decided to release water even before the farmers made a request.

Mr. Karunanidhi said he had instructed officials to expedite the process of providing agricultural loans and giving fertilizers at the right time, so that farmers might benefit.
