NEW DELHI: Pemba Tamang shot a 571 and finished 23rd in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event in the shooting World Cup in Milan on Wednesday. A score of 281 in the first stage when he had a third card of 89 affected the final position of the talented shooter, and a 290 in the second stage following rounds of 98, 98 and 94 could not lift him much among the ranks. The gold medal in the rapid fire pistol event went to Christian Reitz of Germany who put two world records against his name with a total of 794.0 and a 591 in the qualifying phase. In the women’s 25m sport pistol event, Shweta Chaudhry shot a 575 to be placed 24th in a field of 69. She had 289 in the precision series and 286 in the rapidfire section. Below par rounds of 94 in precision and 93 in rapidfire saw her finish seven points behind the last finalist. The results: Men: 25m rapid fire pistol: 1. Christian Reitz (Ger) 794.0 (591) WR; 2. Ralf Schumann (Ger) 789.7 (590); 3. Ivan Stoukachev (Rus) 785.2 (583). Indians: 23. Pemba Tamang 571; 33. Vijay Kumar 562; 36. Ronak Pandit 556. Women: 25m sport pistol: 1. Gundegmaa Otryad (Mgl) 787.9 (583); 2. Lalita Yauhleuskaya (Aus) 784.7 (582); 3. Munkzul Tsogbadrah (Mgl) 783.6 (582). Indians: 24. Shweta Chaudhry 575; 36. Annu Raj Singh 572; 37. Sushma Singh 572.
