Author Sebastian Faulks with a copy of ‘Devil May Care’ in London. Thirty-four years after succumbing to a heart attack in Canterbury, James Bond creator Ian Fleming has been resurrected by Penguin Group, U.K., which has come out with the suave spy’s latest adventure. Published on the occasion of Fleming’s 100th birth anniversary and to be distributed here exclusively by Penguin Books India, “Devil May Care” has been penned by Sebastian Faulks, writing as ‘Ian Fleming’, and is another electrifying chapter in the life of the most iconic spy ever to grace literature or celluloid. A throwback to the days of the Cold War, Faulks picks up where Fleming left Bond—facing dangers that have a powerful relevance to our times. A story of almost unbearable pace and tension, “Devil May Care” captures the very essence of Fleming’s original Bond novels. The book describes an interwoven chain of events designed to lead to a global catastrophe -- a tide of lethal narcotics threatens to engulf Sixties Britain even as a British airliner goes missing over Iraq against the backdrop of the Middle East war. A worthy addition to Fleming’s 14 James Bond books, “Devil May Care” has been touted to provide “the biggest literary thrill of 2008” by industry-watchers. The London-based Faulks, who has worked as a journalist with the Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph, has written several other well-accepted novels including Dolphin Street (2001) and Human Traces (2005).
