Collector hands over 100 houses

70 per cent of tsunami houses given
|
KARAIKAL: Nearly 70 per cent of the permanent houses out of the target of 3,500 houses had so far been constructed and handed over to beneficiaries in Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Puducherry, said N.Vasanthakumar, Collector of Karaikal, on Thursday.
Handing over the 100 permanent houses built by Salvation Army, a non-governmental organisation, at a total cost of Rs. 3 crore at Kilinjalmedu coastal village near here to the tsunami-hit families in the village, the Collector appealed to the beneficiaries to maintain the houses, grow trees and keep the surrounding clean and tidy.
Remaining houses before year end
Dr.Vasanthakumar explained in detail the tsunami rehabilitation works being carried out in the district and pointed out that the remaining permanent houses would be completed and handed over to the beneficiaries before end of this year.
