MAHABUBNAGAR: Barring minor disturbances polling passed off peacefully in Jadcherla assembly constituency on Thursday. According to the Collector and District Election authority V. Usharani about 67 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise. Polling was disrupted in some polling stations due to trouble with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) but resumed later.
At a polling station in Bhootpur, the EVM developed technical snag at the fag end of the polling by which time 750 votes had been cast. The malfunctioning EVM was replaced and polling resumed after brief delay.
The Collector said that there was huge turnout of voters between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and some police stations recorded 83 per cent of polling up to 5 p.m. She said polling went off peacefully due to strict implementation of model code of conduct.
The Superintendent of Police T. V. Shashidhar Reddy denied any clash took place in Hanwada. He said due to heavy police bandobust and intensified checks elections were almost incident free.
