Bypolls remain lacklustre
J.B.S. Umanadh
SIDDIPET (Medak): It was an election without visible signs of a wave in favour of any particular political party as far as Dommat, Ramayampet and Siddipet was concerned.
Anxious candidates frequently asked about voting percentage on a day when the heat too, took its toll. Polling was peaceful barring a few protests.
Rather slow in the morning, polling picked up towards evening and reports estimated voter turnout at 69, 68 and 63 per cent in the three constituencies, respectively.
The bypolls in general across the district remained lacklustre, with most party cadres workers and voters alike preferring to remain indoors.
The absence of normal shows of strength by party workers near polling stations was conspicuous and was attributed as much to stricter implementation of the poll code and the heat.
In Nandagopularam of Ramayampet segment TRS workers raised slogans against police, alleging that the special police on duty had shunted out a voter for sporting a pink scarf.
