BANGALORE: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Thursday complimented the State administration for its efforts in ensuring peaceful elections.

In his address to his advisers and top officials to mark the end of President’s Rule in the State, Mr. Thakur said the new Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers would assume office on Friday. “I wish them well and look forward to an able and dynamic government.”

‘Worked together’

The Governor thanked the officers and staff for their cooperation during the six months of President’s Rule. “We have worked together to uphold the same tradition of growth and development.” A peaceful and smooth transition in government bears testimony to the strong democratic ethos and strength of the nation, he said.

Though there is going to be a change of guard at the helm, the administrative set-up remains the same since the government is a continuous entity, he said and recalled the glorious history of the State in the social, economic and cultural fields. The Governor, who participated in “Janata Darshans” during President’s Rule, said, “I am happy that during President’s Rule we were able to live up to the expectations of the people in the discharge of the onerous responsibilities cast upon us… I am sure you will render the same kind of cooperation to the new dispensation as you did during President’s Rule.”

The Governor will submit a report to the President on the achievements of the State during the period of President’s Rule, official sources said.

Advisers to the Governor S. Krishna Kumar and P.K.H. Tharakan, Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao and principal secretaries and secretaries of various government departments attended Thursday’s meeting.
