Government may bring in ordinance
Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is examining whether it could bring in an ordinance to protect the education of 37 Scheduled Tribe students admitted to the medical colleges in the State last year without the stipulated minimum marks in the entrance examinations.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) had objected to the admission of these students. The stipulation is that the students should have secured at least 50 per cent marks in the entrance examinations to gain admission to the medical colleges. Through a Cabinet decision last year, the government brought down the minimum marks to 40 per cent for Scheduled Tribe students to fill their quota of seats.
“We will examine all legal possibilities,” Minister for the Welfare of Backward and Scheduled Communities A.K. Balan said here on Thursday.
