Money, liquor in free flow

N. Rahul

Voters make no bones about fact of receiving cash

Fund distribution by leaders in weaker sections colony

Liquor cartons seized from political activist’s house

STATION GHANPUR: There were confessions and complaints which bordered on the immoral as the dominant role by played money during election time came to the fore once again.

Meda Elendhra of Raghavapur village in Station Ghanpur (SC reserved) Assembly constituency made no bones that she received Rs. 50 from a particular party in consideration for her vote. She was morally bound to vote in favour of the candidate of that party. Elendhra, who walked out of the polling station along with two other women after casting their votes, said they received the money on Wednesday during a fund distribution spree by leaders of that party in the weaker sections colony.

Common tales

On the other hand, Kasani Narsaiah and his wife Nayakamma of the same village cursed their fate that no one approached them with money. They voted according to their conscience to the candidate who had not tasted power yet.

The likes of the tales narrated by Elendhra and Narsaiah were commonly heard in the rural pockets of Warangal district as the polling went on Thursday.

Money and liquor played a dominant role in bringing the voters to the polling stations.

The police seized four cartons of liquor from the house of a political activist Ponnam Srinivas in Station Ghanpur village and shifted him to court.

P. Rameshaiah, a Deputy Superintendent of Police posted at Station Ghanpur, said some others were also arrested for possession of liquor.
