Implement quota: NDF

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Development Front (NDF) has urged the government to implement the reservation package announced by the previous UDF government.

NDF State president T. Abdurehman Bafakki and State council member V.P. Nazarudeen told reporters here on Thursday that the UDF government had announced the package at the fag end of its tenure and said that the backward communities would not lose their job opportunities in future. It had also issued an order amending the service rules. Though the LDF had opposed the package, later it accepted the conditions. The conditions in the package ensured that the jobs reserved for a community would be given only for a member of the same community and it would not be passed on to others. It has been proposed to prepare supplementary rank lists along with the main list. Appointment charts showing the details of candidates in various quotas, extending the tenure of selection year and many other norms were included to protect the rights of the backward sections.

The NDF would launch a series of agitations demanding to implement the package at the earliest. It has been decided to organise evening dharnas at 60 centres in the State to press for its demand on May 30. Mr. Bafakki would inaugurate the dharna in the capital.

The leaders said the front was opposed to pseudo secularism and spirituality. Stringent action should be taken against godmen who seek to exploit people in the name of spirituality.
