HUBLI: The national executive committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat has urged the Union Government to support the Tibetan struggle for independence in the interest of the nation. National secretary of ABVP Shrinivas told presspersons here on Thursday that a resolution in this regard was passed on the first day of the ongoing national executive committee meeting of ABVP in Hubli. He said the ABVP would urge the Centre to take up the issue with the world community and to create a conducive atmosphere for talks between Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and the Chinese Government for finding an amicable solution. He said. “ABVP believes that the issue of Tibet is linked to the security of India. Tibet, as a buffer state, had been protecting India’s border from the claws of China before 1959. Indo-China border disputes were raised by China only after 1959.” ABVP national secretary Asha said that the committee felt that the first war of Independence in 1857 has been wrongly mentioned as “Sepoy mutiny” in Indian textbooks.
