PATNA: The rift within the ruling coalition in Bihar has widened with BJP MLA Phalguni Prasad Yadav filing a case of murderous assault against Food Minister Narendra Singh and his son and JD(U) MLA Abhay Singh at the Sono police station. The alleged incident took place at the laying of foundation for a bridge across the Barakar river. Mr. Yadav said the Minister and his son pounced on him when he sought to take credit for the project. They grabbed the microphone, punched him and pushed him down from the dais, he alleged. Mr. Yadav said he suffered a fracture in the leg, besides a hip injury. The Minister denied the incident, but later maintained that people, reacting adversely to Mr. Yadav’s comments, attacked him and he [the Minister] was not responsible for the episode. Mr. Yadav demanded that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remove Mr. Singh from the Cabinet. Otherwise, he would quit quit as an MLA. BJP spokesman and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, who called on Mr. Yadav, said the party would take up the matter at the proper forum. Deputy Chief Minister S.K. Modi said he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister. RJD spokesman Shyam Razak said the incident clearly showed the Chief Minister’s decreasing control over the law and order situation.
