Gas leak: report sought
Staff Reporter
JAMSHEDPUR: Following the chlorine gas leak at the Tata water treatment plant here on Tuesday, which resulted in 180 people being taken ill, the East Singbhum district administration in Jharkhand has asked for a detailed report on the current condition of the chlorine storage system at all Tata plants in the town.
“Notice has been served on Tata Motors, Tata Steel and Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company Limited (JUSCO) for a detailed report of the maintenance and safety standards of their chlorine gas storage system,” said R.K. Agarwal, district collector of East Singbhum district.
The two officials arrested in this connection have been charged with Section 308, a bailable offence.
Meanwhile, the state Labour Commission, the Tata factory site inspector and the district police have formed a committee to investigate the case.
