BHILWARA: Shadab shone, as he accumulated 29 points in guiding Uttar Pradesh to a 76-69 victory over Haryana in the quarterfinals of the boys’ section in the 59th National junior basketball championship here on Thursday. Chhattisgarh did very well to make the semifinals in both the boys’ and girls’ sections. While the boys scored an easy 71-39 win over Madhya Pradesh, the Chhattisgarh girls were equally forceful in recording a 78-59 triumph over Tamil Nadu. Shweta and Tanvi did the bulk of the scoring as the Maharashtra girls also sailed into the semifinals with a 62-55 win over Punjab. The results (quarterfinals): Boys: Uttar Pradesh 76 (Shadab 29, Manish 14) bt Haryana 69 (Sandeep 20, Virender 17); Chattisgarh 71 (Ashutosh 15, Kiran Pal 15, Pratham 14) bt Madhya Pradesh 39 (Vishesh 16).
