Preethi in finals

BANGALORE: Preethi Ujjini of Tennis Advantage Academy stormed into the girls’ under-14 and under-16 singles finals in the Sadhashivanagar Club AITA Talent Series tennis championship at the club courts here on Thursday.

It was a long day for Preethi, who started off the day completing her unfinished under-16 singles quarterfinal against Pooja Patil in the morning and later beat Shruthi Prashanth 6-3, 6-0 in the under-14 semifinals and capped the day with a 7-6(5), 6-1 win over Amla Amol Warrick in the under-16 semifinals.

In the under-14 final, Preethi meets seventh-seeded Tejaswini Belludi, who shocked top-seeded S.P. Ritu 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the other semifinals. In the under-16 final, she takes on top-seeded Rachita Sarda.

One-sided encounters marked the boys semifinals as third-seeded Nikhil Reddy made short work of Evans Mirjakar 6-4, 6-1 to set up a title clash with second-seeded Kashyap Ashok in the under-14 singles, while the top two seeds, Sagar Manjunath and S. Raghavendra, meet in the under-16 final.

The results (semifinals): Boys: Under-14: Nikhil Reddy bt Evans Mirajkar 6-4, 6-1; Kashyap Ashok bt Antony Savio (TN) 6-1, 6-0. Under-16: Sagar Manjunath bt Nikhil Reddy 6-2, 7-6(5); S. Raghavendra bt P. Nagaraj 6-1, 6-3.

Girls: Under-14: Tejaswini C. Belludi bt S.P. Ritu 5-7, 6-3, 6-4; Preethi Ujjini bt Shruthi Prashanth 6-3, 6-0. Under-16: Rachita Sarda bt S.P. Ritu 6-1, 6-2; Preethi Ujjini bt Amla Amol Warrick 7-6(5), 6-1. — Special Correspondent
