Two MLAs from Davangere likely to be made Ministers

H.S. Narasimha Kumar

S.A. Ravindranath and R. Karunakara Reddy may

join Ministry

Davangere: Davangere district, from where six Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates have won, is likely to get two ministers in the maiden BJP government in the State.

It is likely that S.A. Ravindranath, who was a minister in the erstwhile BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) government will get a berth. He has been elected for the fourth time in a row. Mr. Ravindranath won from Davangere north Assembly segment by a record margin of 55,616 votes.

The second likely candidate is the Bellary MP, R. Karunakara Reddy, who has been elected from Harpanahalli Assembly segment. He reportedly played a key role in getting the support of the independents to make the BJP reach the magic figure. Mr. Reddy defeated M.P. Prakash, former Deputy Chief Minister and the Congress candidate, in Harpanahalli with a margin of over 25,000 votes.

The BJP workers, however, are unsure about who would be made the district in-charge minister for Davangere. While many BJP workers say that Mr. Ravindranath would be made the district-in-charge minister, considering his seniority in the party, supporters of Mr. Reddy are backing him for the post.

There are six independents apart from 110 BJP legislators to choose Ministers from. Mr. Yeddyurappa has already said that he was going to induct a person from the minorities in the Ministry.

There are a few districts in the State, like Davangere, where more than three party candidates have been elected, that too for the second and third time. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Yeddyurappa strikes the right balance.
