NEW DELHI: Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti director Savita Singh released a book titled “Know Your India” encapsulating various facets of the country at a function at 5 Tees January Marg here on Thursday. Emotional attachmentSpeaking on the occasion, Ms. Singh noted that people had great emotional attachment with the hallowed premises as Bapu had lived and spent the last 144 days of his life here. “On the fateful day, when Bapu was reminded that he was getting late for his prayers he stopped his confabulation with Sardar Patel to attend the prayer meeting. It was here that Gandhiji attained martyrdom,” she added. Ms. Singh said the Samiti was also the venue where significant discussions on transfer of power to India were held. “Since the age of three I have known the Samiti where Jayaprakash Narayan had introduced me to the Father of the Nation. The venue“The venue has kept alive Bapu’s memory through rare pictures and literature on the freedom struggle,” she recalled. Stating that “Know Your India” covers topics like the importance of the National Flag, the National Anthem and Indian leaders and achievers, author Rahul Vishwanath Karad said he had given the background and explanatory information along with facts and figures to help the reader comprehend his own country. For easy understanding“It saddens me that even 60 years after Independence, many of us are ignorant about interesting facets of our country. Through this book, I have made an effort to put many facets in a concise and easy-to-understand manner. ‘Know Your India’ is an enviable compilation that instils a sense of patriotic fervour and what it means to be an Indian,” said Mr. Karad, who is the Dean of MAEER’s MIT School of Government, Pune. The book has names and profiles of Nobel laureates from India and names, pictures and minute details of all Presidents and Prime Ministers of the country.
