ID cards: mistakes galore

There are hardly any mistakes in the Passports issued by the Government and similar is the case with Ration Cards. But when it comes to Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) mistakes are galore and shocking. All the three documents are considered very important in identifying the Indian citizen, then why is the Government so callous when it comes to issuing EPICs.

Obviously there is lack of interest on part of the Government as the stakes are low in EPICs. If the scrutiny is poor in passports the consequences are huge including national security and mistakes in ration cards costs the Government in way of higher billing. So it is careful while dealing with these documents. Since EPICs are only used for voting, the political parties think that they don’t lose much. The point here is if the Government is serious and officials are sincere, EPICs too can be made fool-proof .
