Byelection holiday a boon
Byelections might have been a night mare for all the contesters who had to campaign in hot sun and then indulge in a nasty street fight on the penultimate day. However, public holiday declared on Thursday in view of elections came as a boon to the city residents.
Taking full advantage of the unexpected break, many voters ignored the very purpose of it and slept overtime at their homes. Scorching heat in the afternoon kept most of them indoors while the few who ventured out did not ‘waste’ their time on exercising their voting right.
They played cricket instead. Evenings were dedicated to family dinners and movies.
Meanwhile, those who really cared to vote— most of them daily wage earners—did not really need a holiday for that.
