Corporation schools to get a fresh look

Civic body allots Rs.55 lakh for painting and small repairs

TIRUPUR: Corporation schools in Tirupur city, which have been a neglected lot for years, will get a fresh look soon.

Renovation

Tirupur Corporation has allotted Rs.55 lakh to give a fresh coat of painting to all the 20 schools across the city besides carrying out minor repairs.

The corporation council presided by Mayor K. Selvaraj on Thursday gave its nod to the proposal forwarded by engineering department.

All the schools would get same ivory and dark yellow colour paints, as in the Corporation office.

He said under the special project, almost all the needs of the schools would be fulfilled.

New classrooms

Jaivabai Girls Higher Secondary School would get Rs.5 lakh for painting and Rs.2.5 lakh would be given to Nanjappa Boys Higher Secondary School.

Besides this, Karuvampalayam Middle School, where a total of 1,300 students are studying and most of them under the shades of trees, would get additional classrooms at a cost of Rs.12.5 lakh. Kumaranandhapuram school would get additional building at an estimated cost of Rs.10 lakh.

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam councillors led by former MLA C. Sivasamy staged a brief walkout protesting against frequent power cuts and hike in yarn prices.

Communist Party of India councillors P.R. Nataraj and S. Ravichandran demanded appointment of more sanitary workers and other staff following the elevation of the local body as Corporation.
