Ministers to be told to meet people in districts Primacy for Kannada in administration
SHIMOGA: Chief Minister-designate B.S. Yeddyurappa has said that it is his ambition to take administration to the doorstep of the people so that there will be no need for them to come to Bangalore to meet him to get their grievances redressed. Mr. Yeddyurappa, who was on his way to the Siddaganga Math in Tumkur a day before being sworn in as Chief Minister on Friday, speaking to The Hindu on the phone, said, “It is my desire to see that people do not have to spend hard-earned money to come to Bangalore just to see me to get their problems solved. I will give strict instructions to tahsildars and Deputy Commissioners not to visit Bangalore unnecessarily on the pretext of official work. They should make themselves available to the people so that they can respond to grievances effectively.” He said he would ask district-level officials to hold videoconferences at different levels regularly to interact with people. Mr. Yeddyurappa said he would also instruct Ministers in charge of districts to hold “Janata Darshan” in their respective districts at least once a fortnight to listen to people’s grievances and problems. He said that primacy for Kannada would be on top of his Government’s agenda. The Government would also take up seriously with the Centre other important issues such as granting classical language status to Kannada, special status to the Hyderabad Karnataka region under Article 371 and ensuring justice to Karnataka in matters pertaining to the Railways. Mr. Yeddyurappa said Kannada would be implemented as the language of administration at all levels. All proceedings of Cabinet meetings would be in Kannada and Ministers would be asked to send notes to him in Kannada. He would persuade industries to give more priority to Kannadigas in employment.
