100 injured in pandal collapse

Condition of a few is said be critical; heavy wind brought down tin-sheeted roof



The crash: Rain, accompanied by strong wind, flattened the roof of a pandal at a religious festival in Sathyamangalam on Thursday.

ERODE: As many as 100 people are said to be injured in an accident that occurred on Thursday evening at a religious festival, which is on at a private college in Sathyamangalam.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 5.30 p.m. when rain accompanied by heavy wind brought down tin-sheeted pandal roofs. People sitting at the site were caught beneath the roofs and wooden poles.

Procession

The sources said the number of injured could have been more had the people who were on a procession been at the site. The roofs came down as the people in procession were about to enter the venue.

The injured have been rushed to hospital in Sathyamangalam and Coimbatore. The condition of a few is said to be critical.
