Congress Working Committee to meet tomorrow

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday to take stock of the political situation in the country.

The meeting comes exactly a week after the party faced defeat in the Karnataka Assembly elections and at a time when the government led by it at the Centre is grappling with the fallout of rising crude oil prices worldwide.

With the oil marketing companies warning of an impending cash crunch to import crude if nothing is done without any delay and Left parties resisting an another hike in fuel prices, this issue is likely to dominate the CWC meet.

Organisational preparedness

Besides analysing the Karnataka result, the CWC is likely to review its organisational preparedness for the crucial Assembly elections scheduled later this year. The States scheduled to go to the polls are Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
