Srinagar: Host Jammu and Kashmir entered the pre-quarterfinals of the 62nd J&K Bank-National football championship for the Santosh Trophy, trouncing Himachal Pradesh 8-0 in a Cluster IV match at Polo ground here on Thursday. In other matches, Tripura drubbed Gujarat 5-0, Goa defeated Uttarakhand 3-1, Orissa held Services 1-1 and Daman and Diu beat Puducherry 2-1. Jammu and Kashmir completely dominated Himachal and led 5-0 at the breather. Ishfaq Ahmed scored four goals for the home team. He opened the account in the 14th minute and added three more in the 18th, 36th and 78th minutes. Ishfaq’s first goal unsettled the opponent, which conceded four more goals in the first-half. Bilal made it 2-0 in the 16th minute before Ishfaq found the target in the 18th and 36th minutes. Waseem made it 5-0 just a minute before the breather. Himachal made some threatening moves, but could not come close to scoring. In fact, the home team goalkeeper Tanveer Ahmad was tested only once in the entire match. Jammu and Kashmir added three more goals in the second session through captain Shahnaz Iqbal, Taufeeq and Ishfaq in the 48th, 65th and 78th minutes respectively. — PTI
