Shyam Nikhil of Madurai claimed the Annapragada Trophy, winning the 10th Jawahar Vidyalaya Tamil Nadu State under-25 FIDE-rated chess tournament. State women’s champion and the women’s top seed R. Preethi of Madurai clinched the Nivarthi Trophy, finishing on top in the seventh Jawahar Vidyalaya Tamil Nadu State under-25 women’s FIDE-rated tournament. In the final round played here on Thursday, Shyam accounted for R. Arun Karthik, while Preethi scored over Visalatchi. Prize for ArunThe Tennetti Venugopal Trophy for the best game of the tournament was awarded to Arun Karthik for his fifth-round game against V.A.V. Rajesh. The trophies and prizes were awarded to the winners by J.C.D. Prabhakar, Vice-President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and Padma Yerra, Treasurer of Stree Seva Mandir. D.V. Sundar, Hon. Secretary, AICF and Manuel Aaron, Gen. Secretary, TNSCA, felicitated the winners. Final placings: Men: 1. P. Shyam Nikil (Mdu, 8 points), 2. R. Siddarth (Che, 7.5), 3. R.A. Pradeep Kumar (Che, 7), 4.
