Campaign for Periyar on June 11

NEW DELHI: The Indian Justice Party has decided to launch a campaign on June 11 in neighbouring Ghaziabad to challenge the ban imposed by the Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh against putting up of statues and posters of social reformer and political thinker Periyar. At a press conference here on Thursday, IJP president Udit Raj said it was surprising that Mayawati, who champions the cause of the downtrodden and the Dalits, had “dumped” Periyar. Dr. Raj said the State Government cannot ban putting up posters of Periyar as it was neither unconstitutional nor illegal.
