Allahabad: In what is most likely to raise concerns over the education scenario in Uttar Pradesh, more than half of the nearly 26 lakh candidates have failed in the high school final examinations, results for which were announced here on Friday. “Altogether 25,71,935 candidates had appeared for the High School final examinations this year. Of them only 10,30,940, i.e. about 40.07 per cent, managed to pass,” Director of Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad Hari Mohan Tripathi announced at a press conference here. Sharp declineHe said the overall pass percentage has witnessed a sharp decline of 34.34 per cent compared to last year. The girls, who outperformed their male counterparts, registered a pass percentage of 53.35 per cent, which was 27.99 per cent less than last year. On the other hand, among the boys, the pass percentage stood at only 31.38 per cent, a drop of 39.70 per cent last year. The percentage of candidates who secured first division was also 9.70 per cent less than the last year, even as the second and the third divisioners registered an increase of 1.91 per cent and 8.87 per cent respectively, Mr. Tripathi said. -- PTI
